Southcombe Brothers secures Canadian Fire Glove Contract

From an initial website order to a 1400 pair contract, the Ottawa Fire Department were in no doubt that the Firemaster® 4 glove from Southcombe Brothers was the best for the job.

Selling directly from their technical website at www.southcombe.com, Southcombe Brothers secured an order to supply Canada's capital city Fire Department. After being impressed with what they saw, the Ottawa team carried out an extensive trial in which the Firemaster® 4 outperformed the competition in all areas.

The Ottawa Fire Service Evaluation Project described the Firemaster® 4 as having "excellent dexterity" and reporting that it was a "vast improvement over our present glove." The glove from Southcombe Brothers was the only glove in the trial that allowed firefighters to press the Man Down button with their hands still in their gloves. The report summed up the evaluation by saying "this glove is the best of any glove the committee has seen since the evaluation began."

Ottawa proceeded on the recommendations of the Evaluation Project and deliveries of 1400 pairs were completed in 2008. Initial reports have been excellent, with Ottawa Fire Fighters commenting that the gloves do more than just protect against intense heat, they remain dexterous and lightweight, helping them to carry out their job safely and efficiently. Many departments reported a reduction in injuries, as the great fit and comfort means that firefighters use the gloves more and keep them on longer.

One firefighter reported that in his opinion the Firemaster® 4 was the best fire glove he had ever worn. He went on to say that "many members of my department have had problems with the gloves we were previously issued - lack of dexterity, improper fit, lining that inverts when wet and so on and so on. Anyone who has had the privilege of wearing your gloves now guards them fiercely!"
