Posted: 21st December 2008

The team at Southcombe Brothers is celebrating after winning an important and substantial contract to supply the MoD with gloves.

For the first time, the contract was competed for by electronic reverse auction, allowing all companies a chance to adjust their prices in a live on-line bidding forum. Prior to this all tenderer's had to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the strict protocols that govern MoD contract work before they were invited to participate in the tendering process.

The Gloves Various contract includes both ceremonial and operational gloves destined for Afghanistan including the Extreme Cold Weather Mitt . With many styles made in the UK, Southcombe Brothers has been able to secure essential manufacturing jobs as a result of their success with this tender.

"The reverse auction was a tense process, but we were confident that our offer would be successful," said David Southcombe. "We will use our extensive knowledge of the products to ensure that all items are made to the exacting standards of our customer and will work closely with the MoD to ensure that they are delivered on time."

Valued at around GB£2 million pounds, the contract will run for the next 4 years.
